emporary emergency shelter constitutes a salutary and inspiring intersection of good design with good works. There is perhaps no human need as urgent as that for shelter, as demonstrated by the Atlantic superstorm Hurricane Sandy in 2012, the Category 3 storm that affected 24 states, including the entire eastern seaboard from Florida to Maine, with especially severe damage in New Jersey and New York. At this year's ICFF, a novel solution to housing during such disasters was presented by the University of Cincinnati's architecture program: the introduction of the "Flat Pack Shelter," one that can be packaged and shipped flat to disaster areas and assembled by ordinary users with no more tools or expertise than those required to put together an IKEA bookshelf.
