The shapes and materials of "Leaf", "Cricket", "Tilt" and "Maya" are Machine Age meets transformers, cavorting with Italian Futurists. They are chic and sculptural, made from a repertoire of kaleidoscopic cutouts, tightly hinged and riveted. The unique pyramid hinge (patent pending) is a completely new folding mechanism that enables planar components to move in synch from a completely flat position, to a structurally rigid three-dimensional frame. The complex symmetry of the "Leaf" chair when unfolded puts me in mind of a Rorschach text. The "Cricket" table echoes the flared elegance of designs from the 1930s by Jean Prouve, of whom Le Corbusier said, "Prouve combines the soul of an engineer with that of an architect."
