Stephen Bastone interior is always an intense topos of research and the recherché—a deep knowledge of the exquisite—and this apartment in the old Delmonico's building, now Trump Park, is no exception. It is a sumptuous mix of Bastone's custom designed upholstered furniture, 19th century antiques and mid- century trouvailles. It is also, in part, an homage to the great Hollywood decorator and glamorous avatar of neo- Regency style, Billy Haines. And, as always, Bastone achieves his lapidary eclectic style in an atmosphere of supreme comfort for the client, the mingling of erudition and ease. The living room carpet is an ebullient Empire Savonnerie with a splendid roundel of stylized roses, c. 1820, from Doris Leslie Blau Rugs. Upon this grand example of the weaver's art are planted, with aplomb, a luxurious Bastone-designed sofa covered in cream silk damask from Christopher Hyland, its bottom scalloped and a HYLAND
