was more adventurous than Vancouver-based Keiou Design Lab, creators of continuous relief panels ideal for feature walls often seen in living rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms, with a dynamic appearance that alters depending on one's viewing angle. These are somehow Op Art-inspired mutations of the flat wall, reminiscent of Vasarely or Bridget Riley. The Cuban designer Ruben Toledo makes wall and floor coverings of quite a different ilk for Ceramic Bartelli, hand-painted black on white tiles that resemble German 18th century Scherenschnitte, or paper silhouettes. Toledo's imagery is at once feminine and neo-baroque, a modern play upon Surrealism with references to the beautiful, often ruined interiors of old Havana. DG Mosaic HYLAND
