HYLAND
At the heart of Panthalassa is a
winding, cocoon-like honey-colored
wooden staircase flanked by curved
banisters of plexiglass and steel. In
the circular dining room, beneath a
spectacularly lit dome and oculus,
the ebonized round table and black leather chairs
do double duty as a site for navigation plans. Ships
have always been places for built-in furniture; Foster
reinterprets its conventions with continuous countertops
and banquettes. The six staterooms are a paradoxical
mix of Zen simplicity and the utmost luxury, with soft silk
pile carpets and curving leather chairs and king sized
beds in four.
