watch reruns of "Baggage" rather than read Benjamin.
What of the contents of Kang's library?
The first image, "Lighting Books," presents four shelves
of neatly ordered monographs in fluorescent colors, with
a sprinkling of memoirs and philosophy, about 28 per
shelf. My picks? The Gay Science, The Eye, Basquiat,
George Condo, Matisse, Pierre Chareau and Malcolm
X. The second image, "Pile of Books" is much more
dynamic and variegated, with hundreds of books stacked
horizontally so that, like bricks, they interlock, forming
patterns resembling complex bar graphs. Yoko Ono's
Grapefruit catches the eye, as do Japanese Prints, David
Hockney, Edvard Munch and, improbably, Statistics.
"Pile of Books (Vertical)" is small
and selective: it includes In the
Making (a telling title), Murakami,
Patrick Heron, Anselm Kiefer and
The Fine Art Index. The fourth
image, "Color," comprises David
Hockney, Mary Cassatt, Warhol by
David Bourdon and The Paintings
of George Bellows.
