These objects comprise only the tip of the iceberg;
suffice to say, Bastone as decorator is a lodestone
attracting the crème de la crème, to mix metaphors.
The finishing touch to his dining room at Holiday House
happened to be edible: a four-tiered gateau au chocolat
emblazoned with—what else?—the golden crown
that is the fitting personal symbol for this monarch of
decoration, this poet of rooms.
