The living room, like the dining room, is a south-of-the border
time warp. Flanking an arched doorway, stepped at the top,
are a pair of polished wood settees, inlaid and fringed, remi-
niscent of Bugatti. The fireplace, fancifully round, is bordered
in simple terracotta tiles. A pair of curving Art Deco fauteuils,
upholstered in a silvery damask radiate gently faded luxury, set
upon a rich blood-red rug. One imagines this room suddenly
abandoned during a coup.
If McKay's interiors seem elegantly frozen in an earlier era, his
outside spaces, dominated by a splendid mosaic-tiled swimming
pool shaded by capacious palms, are cheerfully up-to-date. A
