enriched weapons, gorgeous silver armor dripping with
diamonds and pearls, one imagines adorning the beautiful
elf Tauriel in The Hobbit, or encasing a warrior-heroine in
Game of Thrones.
Rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces and face-pieces a la
Habana encrust the wearer in a fierce, ambiguous insignia
of wealth, pleasure, pain and longing. I am reminded of Jean
Genet's novel, Our Lady of the Flowers: "My heart's in my
hand, and my hand is pierced, and my hand's in the bag,
and the bag is shut, and my heart is caught."
