HYLAND
There are surreal moments: a small library door,
positioned at the center of a magnificent forecourt, the
façade of a splendid chateau just above, highlights the
juxtaposition of economy and necessity, even in the
face of splendid ornamentation. The small door seems
to invite you to enter yet
another world, a hallmark
of Juan-Pablo Molyneux'
design which comprises
a feast of visual delight in
rooms, each extraordinary,
but of marked difference
one to the other.
Twelve large porcelain
blue and white Chinese
temple figures, supported
by seashells, proud of
the tiled surface which
depicts a vast garden,
appear other-worldly. A
gilt-bronze sculpture by
Rodchenko, composed of
numerous frames randomly
intersecting each other
draws attention from
their central position on
a pier table supported by
gryphons. This sculpture's function might be to remind
us of the hermit, who seeks order in solitude, removing
self to the abstract world of the spiritual, in this case,
surrounded by idealized images of the built world and
the ordering of nature.
