One
would
expect
large beams of light, for
instance, to emanate
from the building's center
in a celestial direction: the
viewer's gaze is driven
skywards, if for no other
reason than that you
first see Caprarola from
below. The two pairs of
sweeping staircases, the first pair sensuously curved,
seem to evoke a heavenly journey.
Lutyens' Viceregal Palace, New Delhi, is a different
