The master bedroom, with a west facing French door
and balcony, features a high, deeply coved ceiling and a
fireplace with Delft tiles. Hugh Henry has endowed this
room with a distinctly feminine character, commissioning
Marino Mills in England to weave the cream curtains
and bed fabric to a 19th century pattern. The architects
designed white bookshelves, glazed in a diamond pattern,
for the corners of the room, one of which swings out to
reveal secret shelves behind.
The secret shelves are perhaps an apt metaphor for lovely
Phantom Fox, a modest residence flawlessly designed,
by both its original architect and the nonpareil Fairfax &
Sammons; its interior decorated with that unique magic
we call English style, an unlikely yet perfect amalgam of
the cozy and the grand. H Lisa Zeiger
