M
inimalism, once all the rage, is much maligned
these days, awash as we are in a crowded sea
of eclecticism, some of it fascinating, some of its
archipelagoes just confused. New York designer Carol
Egan is resolutely minimalist in her approach to rooms,
yet in her discerning selection of interesting furniture from
various contemporary designers, she is herself eclectic,
albeit in an exceptionally pure and meditative vein. The
square blue painting, an abstract mandala of pure color
in the entry hall of this Fifth Avenue apartment sets the
tone: this is a place to think, perchance to dream.
