Charles, Prince of Wales, launched
the Prince's Trust in 1976;
after completing his duty in the
Royal Navy, His Royal Highness
dedicated himself to improving
the lives of disadvantaged young
people in the UK, setting up
twenty-one pilot programs around
the country. The programs were
as diverse as their participants:
a 19-year old woman received
a grant to run a social center at
a housing project, and two exoffenders were funded to run a
fishing club. Young lifeguards
were trained; others learned
bicycle repair.
In the nearly forty years since
the Trust's founding, it has
promulgated a wide variety of
activities focused upon helping
young people get started on a
lifetime of meaningful work and
education, providing practical
and financial support. Perhaps
most famously, the Prince's
Enterprise program provides
support to young entrepreneurs,
having helped more than 80,000
