Reading Room, Billiard Room, Members' Lounge and
Tea Room, all pictured here. BARC's motto "The Right
Crowd and No Crowding" notwithstanding, anybody
could join BARC provided they paid the substantial
dues necessary.
During the First World War, Brooklands was closed
to motor racing and requisitioned by the War Office.
Vickers Aviation Ltd set up a factory in 1915, and
Brooklands became a fulcrum for the construction and
