Sotheby's, former Director Anne Ceresole, saying "art
historians are sometimes afraid of a good sensuous
photograph." The latter abound in de Nicolay-Mazery's
oeuvre, and I am happy, at this moment, to be exploring
a heap of four such tomes, reveling in their wise words
and lavish pictures.
French Interiors: the Art of Elegance, is, like all de Nicolay's
books, a classic, with in-depth portraits of just nine
interiors, the crème de la crème of a large field. In any case,
these dwellings alone give any reader, but particularly the
aspiring interior designer, nine courses of rich food for
thought, transmitted through photographs by Christina
Vervitsioti-Missoffe and de Nicolay-Mazery's eloquent
text. The interiors in the book are well known and have
been widely published, but never before with such depth
and delectation. De Nicolay invites us inside, among
