held captive by Martin Landau, sipping cocktails all the while. I
would be only too happy to ensconce myself in this living room,
or even be captive in it, sipping a Gibson, a classic gin martini
garnished with a golden cocktail onion. And so are the tones of
this room golden,
toast
colored,
with swathes of
charcoal grey.
A full height hearth,
constructed
of
basalt
bricks,
dominates
the
center of the room
with a blazing fire;
the hearth divides
the living room from
the dining room,
casting its glow
into both rooms.
If an interior is to
be modern in the minimalist sense, the selection of furniture
is all important. Each piece, by virtue of its splendid isolation,
is elevated to icon. Here, Tanksley got it right, planting before
the hearth two strong armchairs designed and floor lamps.
The ensemble is impressively plain, yet inviting. An oversized
sofa, upholstered in creamy fabric, beckons one to stretch
out and imbibe the conversations which buttress the room's
already stimulating ambiance.
