Smaller relics of the caravan routes are bowls in alabaster
or bronze, preternaturally modern glass dishes, vases and
flasks, ceramic vessels, bone carvings, huge gold earrings
fringed with small bells, cloisonné jewelry, inscribed stele
and other stones. One of the "haunting gold masks" referred
to by Julian Raby is the funerary imprint for a young girl,
found in a magnificent royal tomb from the first century, her
body covered in rubies, gold and pearls.
