Fragment of a wall painting
Roads of Arabia gives us a view of the antiquity of Saudi
Arabia, a world heretofore hidden and romanticized,
through its own artifacts, accompanied by essays by
forty authors drawn from both European and Middle
Eastern universities and museums. Their writings
lend new transparency to a subject still heavily veiled
by exoticism. Over four hundred objects, dating from
prehistoric times to the birth of the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia in 1932 have been traveling, since 2010, to
major museums throughout the world in an exhibition
organized by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and
Antiquities (SCTA) in collaboration with the Musee du
Louvre. None of the works had been seen outside
Saudi Arabia.
