My collection of items share
a quality other than simply
shimmering in some way: all show
an inventiveness and exploration
of materials. Many were also
created by young designers,
unencumbered by the mores of
establishment.
The Carpenters Workshop space
was definitely glammed up but
also completely delightful and
free of self-referential irony. It took
multiple visits through the space
to really see everything, though
without a doubt the Main piece was
the Dandelion Chandelier, a work
of extreme patience and skill. It is
a chandelier made of dandelionlike lights hovering overhead like a
cloud, front and center. Definitely
on the top list of my list of items to
acquire.
Across from the carpenters
workshop was R20th Century
from New York where the Haas
Brother's debuted their collection
in Basel. Almost perfect for a first full
collection, a delightful combination
of aesthetic, humour, skill and
HYLAND
