In a close up portrait of Hitler's face, Untitled, Ghenie
does a Bacon in reverse, obscuring Hitler's eyes and
nose with smears of paint while depicting Hitler's mouth
with more verisimilitude. Bacon was fascinated by the
human orifice of truth and lie, cherishing an illustrated
book on diseases of the mouth and famously distorting
the mouths of his subjects. Ghenie, obversely, paints
Hitler's mouth, chin and mustache somewhat realistically,
while the upper part of his face seems almost to be on fire,
covered in a bloody impasto of red, yellow, brown and
orange. The mouth is grandiloquent; the brain infernal.
