Carmen's still-radiant face is framed by a volume of white
hair and a white satin blouse. Christy Turlington, in her
twenties, wears a pearl choker of Mannerist dimension;
Vogue editor Anna Wintour cracks a rare smile.
These pre-digital photographs perhaps owe something
of their lasting presence to process. Many of Hartman's
works are in black and white; the darkroom endows these
images with a glamour which the pixel cannot replace.
There is care in Hartman's compositions, instantaneous
as they are, rapid-fire orchestrations of a moment in time.
