Harleigh House itself is a fine Georgian house, beautifully
detailed, with a deep cornice of crisp dentil moldings, its
roof crowned with three elegant dormer windows and
a chinoiserie railing just below the twin chimneys. Says
Johnson, "Over the past three hundred years, the house
has been added to, taken away, added to, taken away,
becoming each time bigger, better, more complex and
more livable." The current owners bought the house in
the 1980s and, according to Johnson, it is "above all
other things a family home where they have raised their
family, entertained guests and share their good land with
the best that nature offers."
