coffee tables. At the far end of the living room, covering
an entire wall, is an enigmatic artwork, a smoky painting
of two curvaceous black vases shining against a soft
charcoal background. The only notes of color in the room
emanate from the pollen yellow of a few sofa cushions;
from the green leaves of several overarching trees in pots;
and from another, small painting. The overall effect of this
restraint is soothing,
because Dalton has
chosen warm, velvety
greys rather than the
battleship variety.
The living room flows
seamlessly into the
kitchen, an equally
elegant precinct, its
cabinets lacquered
smartly in black, its
island topped in thick
grey-brown marble.
Three white stools
transform utility into
style: this is a kitchen for eggs Florentine washed down
with Veuve Clicquot, after one has watched the sun
rise through the curious windows, which are screened,
on the exterior of the building, with full-height diamond
shaped façade, a challenge Dalton had to work with
and has turned into a bold design asset.
