neighbor lost a job, you would bring over dinner, and
your children would learn that we all have a responsibility
to help. But what can you do in a city where 1.8 million
of your neighbors suffer from hunger and homelessness,
hidden from view? What tools can caring parents use
to help our children learn of their neighbors' needs and
how best to help? Robin Hood has created programs to
do just that."
Robin Hood works with over 240 nonprofit organizations
in New York, and divides their programs between "Core
fund recipients" and "Relief fund recipients." The former
consists of four "portfolios": early childhood, education,
jobs and economic security, and survival. The latter
contends with disasters, including the economic and
medical fallout surrounding 9/11, and most recently,
provided benefits to victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Not only has Robin Hood attracted big money—donations
from the likes of George Soros and a board of directors
which includes Lloyd Blandfein, of Goldman Sachs and
Richard S. Fuld, Jr., formerly of Lehman Brothers—but
its galas are studded with fascinating, often legendary
talent: The Rolling Stones, The Who, Aerosmith and Mary
J. Blige, to name a few.
The Robin Hood Foundation "neighborhood's" embrace
is wide, as caring as it is powerful. H
