DiCaprio's efforts to aid wildlife
globally reaped a stunning $33.3
million. Though only expected to
fetch $13-$18 million, the spirited
May 14 sale held at their Rockefeller
Center premises featured just 33
works, many made specifically for
the auction. Records were scored
for 13 artists, including Mark
Grotjahn and Robert Longo. Then
loyal supporters contributed $5.5
million swelling the total proceeds
to $38.8 million for the "The Great
Gatsby" star's charity.
Before the festive sale, DiCaprio's
told the packed crowd that proceeds
of the sale would preserve the "last
wild places on earth." "We are facing
