which provide a single, bold note of color in the room.
Blue is a color which stages an appearance in several
of the main rooms of the house: the color of the sea,
of willow pattern plates and somehow, to me, of 18th
century America itself. The breakfast room is sheathed in
a pale blue wallpaper with small-scale white floral sprigs,
and the more formal large dining room is painted robin's
egg blue. The living room, too, has walls of pale blue, a
classic white marble fireplace and is richly furnished with
deep country house couches—the Kennedy sofa from
the O'Henry House collection—upholstered in gorgeous
white on white damask from Cowtan & Tout.
