and magenta. The design duo enriches this already
luxurious envelope with gilt chairs and tables, with sofas
upholstered crisply in white with a sprigged magenta
floral print, tiny and delicate. We do not expect this last
demure touch in such a grand frame, but both form and
color work. The curtains are of pale grey blue, with thick
ruching on the interior edge and tied back close to the
top. The ensemble is elegant, yet it has an edge. Details
such as the ruching are old guard eccentric, startling us
with the ever-refreshing novelties of the past.
One cannot fail to mention the sweeping foyer, with its
serpentine staircase fashioned for divas: one imagines
Bette Davis' Jezebel descending, in a harlot red ball
gown against the velvety cerulean of the runner, to
