wallpaper, a gorgeous lyric of
printing and pigment.
Foster and Giordano are
unafraid of colors and
patterns that dominate, that
impose, that become more
than backdrop. The antiques
in the dining room, in a less
vivid setting, might have
appeared as so much brown
furniture, but posed against
the intense sea-green of the
wallpaper, we appreciate
anew the arabesques of the
chair splats, the mellow polish
of the table. Similarly, in the
breakfast room, the bright
apple green on the moldings,
and the same color, this time
feathery in appearance in the
toile wallpaper, sets off the
more sober table and chairs
to great advantage. Foster
and Giordano add to this
color harmony by displaying
bright yellow porcelain in the
niched shelves, creating a rich,
variegated array of beautiful
hues in a variety of materials
and textures.
