In the living room white walls alternate with oak panels in a further elaboration of the transparent/opaque dialogue. A small hearth warms the double-height room and furniture is assertively modern; two huge sectional sofas, tufted, in white and pollen yellow, are accompanied by small white, round occasional tables and hanging white globe lamps. There is no artwork, though one could imagine a Barnett Newman or Franz Kline hanging here. Or, to be iconoclastic, a Rubens or a Veronese. But for now, trees—and honeybees—suffice. H HYLAND
