alph Provisero resurrects early Machine Age
relics in the service of sculpture, a lyric to lost arts and
parts, most of them metal, all of them heavy. These are
would-be ready mades, but Provisero goes one better
than Duchamp, altering and mutating once-useful
machinery into useless, beautiful objects whose meaning
is mysterious, pointed to only by the names Provisero
gives them.
Says Provisero, "Readymades don't have to be so simple.
We can, as artists, have our own say, force the hand a
little bit so that we guide the viewer. I love the density
of old machine parts. When I was in school wanted the
heaviest, thickest steel I could find; I don't know what I
