The designer and client formed part of a seamless team that resulted in an apartment that is both eminently comfortable and a veritable museum. Cosmopolitan spirit permeates this residence. Persian, African, Dutch, English, Chinese, Italian, Greek, Roman and French idioms are all present. Contemporary American art by Cleve Gray, Beverly Pepper and Alex Liberman with modern furniture by Gabban O'Keeffe surround an ancient Venetian-style sofa with cut velvet upholstery and gilt finials, the ensemble content in situ, knowing that their placement represents an important fusion of cultures. Likewise, architects Fairfax and Sammons formed part of a dynamic team, creating with Papachristidis, a unified decorative and architectural work of art in a Hamptons residence. However committed to a broad traditional design aesthetic, this designer masters modernity very well indeed, precisely because he possesses such a deep, rich understanding of design history. He understands how to cull that which resonates at the moment from that whose moment lingers long. The Provincetown project has a dining room centered upon an oval marble topped Saarinen table with Danish modern chairs.
