Fourth course: pastrami salmon
I was actually quite amazed when, through a translator,
the Ukraine President and I chatted about defense issues
in his area of the world. President Clinton commented
on how many of our mutual acquaintances would
be serving our country in the Diplomatic Corps. I am
sure that throughout the Clinton tenure in the White
House, the President and First Lady had compelling
conversations at such moments in the Oval Room;
some, undoubtedly, concerned the fate of nations. But
I remember imagining the colloquy of Roosevelt and
King George, pondering the degree to which the King's
message in that room might have contributed to swaying
