Much of the criticism attending the design is warranted. Massive, among the highest in the world, naked brutal columns dominate the periphery of a small urban block surrounded by low-rise buildings. Perhaps fitting, in light of Eisenhower���s visionary interstate highway system, but completely lacking in scale and perspective to the site. The effect is more suited to a society in its post empire period, seeking illusions of grandeur it can no longer afford and therefore are unable to manifest in a fully articulated/ enclosed memorial temple, whether contemporary or traditional, although the Eisenhower Memorial price tag is staggering.
