The living room summons unabashedly la vie en rose,
with sumptuous upholstery fabrics in that hue. Over
the sofa hangs Melchior d���Hondecoeter���s painting, The
feathered Choir, c. 1680. The fauteuil is Regence, c.
1720; framing the fire is a nineteenth century Louis XV
mantel in opulent rouge royale marble with a shell motif.
One sees in this house an exceptionally lavish use of
textiles in dressing windows and furniture, and, in the
same rooms, intricate faux painting and finishing, floral
and scenic, all of which speak to the complex language
