M
odernism taught us the lessons of space, light and
air in the interior, a blueprint for living, which designers
are now free to reinterpret more flexibly, using eclectic
combinations of new furniture, 20th century classics and
furniture from earlier eras still. Neal Beckstedt is one
of the new, younger masters of this eclecticism and
the apartment he designed at the Lucida provides a
blueprint we all would do well to learn from. Space, light
and air abound, almost to the point of minimalism, yet
planted within Beckstedts spacious rooms is a colloquy
of furniture, rugs and fabrics varied and rich enough to
please the most discerning of connoisseurs.
