sculptural modernism because
of the shadows cast from the
openwork lanterns, the patterns
from which could well inspire
an artist in silhouette, light and
shade. One thinks of artist Kate
Raudenbush (see the HYLAND
Holiday House edition) and her
contemporary Scherenschnitte

Drake chez the Dakota is
a decorators decorator, a
tastemaker who relies on a
penetrating
knowledge
of
furniture and fabric, and even
deeper instinct for color and light.
Drake stops just short of creating
a period piece, a distillation of
that elegant, underrated era, the
early 1960s. But his use of color
is altogether contemporary, very
new, very Drake. H Lisa Zeiger
