T here is a global kerfuffle of historic proportions, one whose outcome will prove fateful. It will determine the human spiritual and economic condition for centuries to come. It exists, substantially, at the juncture of commerce (inclusive of invention), globalization and design. It comes down to this point of view: the leaders of many politically and economically well functioning societies, at least as judged by those who for the most part use Western criteria to evaluate such matters, are convinced that by substantially relinquishing their country���s primacy in these areas, less prosperous countries will flourish, eventually leveling the global playing field and becoming new import markets. It is very doubtful that this viewpoint will hold, that this viewpoint, necessarily, benefits or is proving beneficial, however positive some aspects of the resulting globalization might be. Societal evolution towards democracy and civic society, in many countries, particularly in the West, requiring thousands of years, comprising one innovative revolution after another, from political to health to transportation and so on may come undone, resulting in great peril to the remarkable democratic societies that have emerged.
