a perfect place to relax over a cup of morning coffee or
an afternoon drink. There are soothing views of greenery
and the riverside terrace through its archways and French
doors, as well as a curious, bright-red replica of the Giant
Swing, one of Bangkok���s old landmarks, which marks
the location of a time capsule installed in 1980 and not
to be opened until 2055. (The replica also has a nostalgic
significance for history buffs. When the huge columns of
the original swing began showing signs of age they were
replaced by Louis T. Leonowens and Company, founded
by the son of the famous Anna and also, briefly, a former
owner of The Oriental.)
From here one proceeds to the Regency Rooms, where
hand-cut crystal chandeliers from Austria, walls covered
with a classic damask pattern in Thai silk, hand-woven
