The entire 150-foot figure is covered in gold leaf, which
catches light from open windows to reflect a soft, luminous
glow highlighting every subtle curve and angle.. The soles
of his feet are intricately inlaid in mother-of-pearl, with
the 108 auspicious signs of a true Buddha���auguring a
prosperous future.
Ornate pillars support the massive roof and block a view of
the figure in its entirety, unless one moves up against the
barriers. The gigantic figure dwarfs the vast room, some
seventy feet high and 175 feet long. Ornate mosaics
and vivid paintings cover completely the walls, windows
and ceilings with complex patterns, in contrast to the
Buddha���s monumental simplicity.
