imagines the display in the central high and large
atrium of the new wing of the Museum of Modern
Art in New York City.
In viewing this audacious display, one is reminded
of the remarkable invention, designing, labor and
manufacturing that is necessary in creating each of
the suspended elements. The display reminds one
of how complex industrial society is, how important
excellence in design and manufacture is to each
component and how ingenious the supervising entity
is in assembling the whole. The display is a metaphor
for technical mysteries elucidated: for the importance
of sustaining complex abilities important to the
whole in the modern age, important to democratic
societies. (See FINIS section, this edition).
