I was invited to her recording session in Los Angeles and took
the requisite grab shots, knowing I���d never use them and that
I had to figure out a way to re-shoot her somehow. I decided
to pay homage to the Blackglama campaign created by the
brilliant Peter Rogers and asked Sarah to bring her Mink coat
when she came to New York. This was one of my very early
studio sessions. I had just learned to use strobe lights. The
record company refused to pay the bill.
2. How do you relax your subjects?
I don���t shoot anyone without first meeting with them. No
exceptions. Otherwise I would be shooting generically. I put a
great deal of thought into what I want to do and where I need
