In either case, it���s essential to take someone���s visual profile somewhere new and non-derivative and to be sure that this image, or brand, if you will, reflects where they are and where they need to be in the current landscape. I relish transformation and re-branding; I am happiest when given the freedom to radically change someone stylistically. I gave Lena her chic slicked back hair, and did the same for Al Sharpton, speaking of transformative. 8. Has a subject ever been unhappy with a picture? Once. A great singer. She smoked up a storm, disrespected my crew, and suffered from self-hatred. And this was not Jessye Norman, who is one of the loveliest people I have ever Al Sharpton known; not Abbey Lincoln, who was a true queen, and not the great Nina Simone. Nina was impossible but worth every minute of torture. After seeing her pictures, she said, very dramatically, in that over-the-top Nina voice: ���Carol. You made me look like Audrey Hepburn, and I thank you.��� HYLAND
