At first it seemed difficult even to
enter the Gallery with a sculptural
head made of blood, but Sandy
was quick to point out that it was
displayed at freezing temperature
and the system had never failed.
Similarly, the glob of feathers, by
Tim Noble and Sue Webster, at
the top of a pole standing proud
of the wall, with a light beyond
causing a shadow to be cast on
the wall, revealing the silhouette of
Isabella Blow, is a fitting tribute to
the great modiste.
From the minimal to the baroque
and everything in between, there
is a style for every viewer; Anna
Wintour, David Hockney and
Salman Rushdie, among countless
others, gather in these galleries as
if to a celebrity salon, one to which
you are always invited.
My favorite sighting was Her
Majesty, the Queen. Portraits by
Dorothy Wilding, Cecil Beaton,
Pietro Annigoni and Chris Levine
were among my favorites. The
images of the Queen with eyes
both wide open and shut, which
