The Francis Hotel's namesake, a 19th century decorator,
would be pleased with the quirky attention paid to
textiles and wallpaper. Although on arrival the colors
might shock, in particular the Las Vegas white painted
furniture and black wallpaper comprising silhouettes of
bold neo-classical heads, once ensconced the hotel is
both a warm and playful contrast to the elegant uniform
tan stone neoclassical city which engulfs it.
The rooms are small, some large, and comfortable with
good bathrooms. One's return is pleasing at the end of
the day. The rich, dark colors envelop in a textile womb.
The staff are to a fault engaging polite and helpful.
Increasingly the visitor will rely on the Blanc restaurant on
the Francis' ground floor. Eat there and you will discover
