A
Gi architects aspire, in their houses, to the purity
of sculpture. In this latest design, the S Cube Chalet
in Kuwait City, they reach that mark. This interlinked
trio of beach houses evinces weight, mass and their
counterpoint, weightlessness. The planes, masses and
apertures of the interior equal and mirror the myriad,
ingenious facets and angles of the elevations, a puzzle
box of a house so elegant it barely needs furniture. One
could sit on the floor in these spaces simply contemplating
the walls, which are not two, but three dimensional,
composed of huge blocks and slabs that are applied
proud of one another. Having said that, the houses are
made for comfortable living; AGi have marshaled the
environment that surrounds them to create an experience
of domestic life intended to bring the outdoors in and
shepherd the inhabitants to look both out and inward.
