aving trekked in the
Himalaya, visiting Nepal and Ladakh,
I have always been entranced
by how the Himalayan Buddhist
aesthetic could be meshed in a
design scheme beyond that region.
Sir Edmund Hillary's guide's village
house fascinated me with its tonkas,
cushions and open fire at the center
of the room, rendering the space
difficult to apprehend, except from
the light of two small windows.
A remarkable New York couple,
visionary collectors and emissaries
of Himalayan art and culture, who
founded a museum celebrating it,
conceived of this unique apartment
and sought the expertise and vision
of New York City interior designer,
Samuel Botero.

little or no precedent from which to
