for Nicky Philip's portrait of Prince
William of Wales and Prince Harry
of Wales. The story which Sandy
recounted of how it came to be
was endearing, confirming the
high regard, respect and love the
brothers have for each other.
Everything is recounted with the
utmost sense of reverence. He is
clearly the correct person to be
the Director and guardian of not
only national artistic treasures,
but of all the stories that surround
their creation. He can even make
that which might seem awful quite
routine and expected. His analysis
and insights are so complete, so
beautifully contained, that they are
works of art themselves.

The nonstop video screen
presentation of Beckham sleeping
seemed almost an intrusion in this
iconic figure's life, a space even
beyond his underwear ads, a final
frontier, as it were. Upon closer
thought, who had ever seen a
portrait of a celebrity twisting
and turning on their bed at some
outrageous frequency per hour?
