Dominating one end of the studio is another Baskerville
creation, a huge trompe l'oeil fireplace over which
hangs a large glowing painting by Van Doren. It is of
one of his fondest subjects, in one of his favorite places,
the Basilica San Marco in Venice. A tour de force, it depicts
the monumental Byzantine cathedral under sparkling
sapphire-blue sky in a panoply of striking colors that
drool rivulets of green, gold and umber to the bottom
