his house decorated by Jamie Drake is pure
escape, a Moroccan fantasy planted Puritan shores.
Other decorators before him, most notably Billy Baldwin,
have mined Morocco for discrete elements of its style���
rugs in thick white wool,
or woven in blue and
white stripes, latticework,
inlaid tables, mosaic tile
patterns. But Drake has
done more than import
details, he has transported
a whole world in which
the clients can immerse
themselves, a world of
pleasure and comfort,
an atmosphere at once
exotic and filled with
modern convenience.
The focal point of this
sybaritic retreat is the
open plan living room/bar which Drake conceived of,
in a delicate sketch, as a high ceilinged room with low
couches in pale pink, garnished plentifully with silk
cushions in pink, silver and pale blue, set against mirrored
